Strategy Adds $1.9B to Cash Reserves While Its Bitcoin Bet Finally Turns Green Again
Strategy has extended its pause on Bitcoin transactions for another week, even as a sharp BTC rebound pushed the company’s massive holdings back into the green.
Michael Saylor, Strategy’s co-founder and former CEO, posted on X on August 24 that the company increased its USD Reserve to $5.10 billion, established an additional USD Cash position of $1.59 billion, and repurchased $136 million worth of STRC.
According to Saylor’s post, as of August 23, 2026, Strategy held roughly 4% of total Bitcoin supply and had approximately 0% net leverage. He also identified the company by its ticker, MSTR.
No Bitcoin buys, no new sales
The update means Strategy has made no Bitcoin moves since its last reported sale on August 10, when it disposed of 1,690 BTC, according to the supplied source.
The continued pause is notable because Strategy has long been closely watched for its Bitcoin accumulation strategy. The source describes the company as the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin.
While Strategy did not add to its BTC position this week, it also did not sell more, according to the reported update.
Bitcoin rebound changes the math
The announcement followed a major Bitcoin price rally. The source states that BTC climbed from below $65,000 to just over $78,000 at press time.
That move lifted Strategy’s Bitcoin position above its reported average acquisition price of about $75,400. The company has spent approximately $63.3 billion to acquire its Bitcoin holdings, according to the source.
At the cited market level, the position was worth more than $65.6 billion, putting it back into unrealized profit for the first time in months. The source notes that the same position had been sitting on an unrealized loss of more than $10 billion a few months earlier.
Saylor keeps promoting Bitcoin’s bigger thesis
The reserve update came hours after Saylor wrote on X that Bitcoin’s “most profound breakthrough” is its ability to convert economic energy into digital form.
For now, Strategy’s latest move suggests a shift in emphasis: no new Bitcoin purchase, no additional BTC sale, and a larger cash cushion while the company’s existing Bitcoin position benefits from the market rebound.
