Animoca’s Moca Chain claims to decouple ID checks from data
Moca Foundation and Moca Network, an Animoca Brands project, launched the Moca Chain mainnet to handle decentralized digital identities, according to the companies.
What launched
The organizations say Moca Chain lets users carry verified digital credentials across applications without repeatedly sharing the underlying personal data. The network focuses on digital identity and enables organizations to issue verifiable credentials for items such as identity verification and membership status. Moca Network states users keep custody of their credentials and control when and where they are shared.
How it’s supposed to work
Under Moca Chain’s decentralized verification model, organizations can verify user information and issue tamper-resistant credentials tied to a unified digital identity, reducing the sensitive information companies need to store, according to Moca Network.
Moca Network is pairing the chain with AIR, a service it says provides a single integration point for onboarding both users and AI agents. Companies can use AIR to convert existing verification checks into credentials on Moca Chain or accept credentials from trusted third parties, the company says.
Why AI agents are in the picture
Moca Network argues that fragmented identity systems force redundant checks across platforms and could become more burdensome as AI agents conduct more online transactions on users’ behalf.
“Users should not be forced to surrender sensitive personal information redundantly every time they use a new service and platform,” Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, said in a statement. He added that as AI agents expand in the digital economy, Moca Chain aims to give individuals “sovereign ownership of their credentials” and give businesses “a mechanism that can establish trust without unnecessary data custody.”
Who’s plugged in
Moca Network said AIR’s ecosystem includes integrations across consumer platforms, fintech, loyalty programs, and agentic commerce projects. Partners named by the company include SK Planet, Biletinial, Oyunfor, Open Campus, OneFootball, Automobili Lamborghini, Inveo Kripto, Plume, and Nansen.
What leadership says
Kenneth Shek, CEO of Moca Network, described Moca Chain as infrastructure intended to make identity information available and changes to credentials auditable. “Scalable data sharing is necessary for AI agents to act on behalf of humans; however, the trust framework for delegation and authority is lacking,” Shek said. He added that AIR is designed to let AI agents perform tasks while users retain control over their data and permissions.
